Dr. Mark Swain
Head, Division of Gastroenterology and Cal Wenzel Family Foundation Chair in Hepatology

Welcome to the Calgary Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology (Calgary GI and Liver Division). Our Division spans four medical sites across Calgary with a team of over 50 members.  We are dedicated to helping patients achieve health and wellness by providing outstanding clinical care, as well as striving to achieve excellence in research and education.  We hope you find this website helpful as you navigate GI and liver health in Calgary and the surrounding areas.

For Patients

The Calgary Division of Gastroenterology (GI) and Hepatology is here to help you remain on the path to gastrointestinal and liver wellness. The GI tract consists of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine /colon, as well as the liver, pancreas and biliary system (gall bladder and bile ducts).  Given the complexity of these organs, understanding GI and liver function (let alone the significance of symptoms if you are unwell) can be a source of great anxiety. Navigating the jargon often used with GI and liver disease diagnosis and treatment can be especially challenging.  We take a holistic approach to patient care, with a specific focus on health as it relates to the GI tract, and we make sure you are informed and knowledgeable about your GI and liver health and treatments.
