Mission:
To improve people’s lives through leading-edge, multi-disciplinary research in basic and clinical translational sciences as it relates to the study of the gastrointestinal tract, liver and pancreas in health and disease, and to train highly qualified personnel and the next generation of leaders in these disciplines.
Who is GIRG?
GIRG is a multi-disciplinary group comprised of 28 full and 7 associate faculty members from a variety of basic science and clinical departments, who study the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, and liver in health and in a variety of important human diseases. Clinical trials are carried out, as well as studies on health care delivery and the epidemiolgy of the diseases. Most members of GIRG are involved with laboratory-based research, while others perform clinical research. There are some faculty members of GIRG who are involved with both laboratory and clinical research.
The research goup also has training programs for graduate students at MSc and PhD levels as well as medical students.
The laboratories of GIRG are located on the first floor of the Health Sciences Centre of the Faculty of Medicine, which is adjacent to the Foothills Medical Centre.
